HUNTING FOR NUGGETS
(Bridie/Phillips)

Into the market look both ways now,
Pleasure for pleasure but pay for the smile,
Just remember your aim is not that far away

In the evening I can see the bricks
on the walls of the factory
But I can't see the sun go down.
A land that is based on hunting for nuggets
And hatred of yellows who want the same thing... always.
Seeing through closed eyes to give an impression
Of women on catwalks and how to be clean,
We long for the time when we'll know what to say,
Just remember your end is not that far away...

David Bridie : piano, keyboards, vocals
John Phillips : guitar
Rowan McKinnon : bass
Jacqui Rutten : vocals
Darren Geraghty :bells, xylophone

DARE NOT SAY A WORD
(Bridie/Phillips)

A silk mist on a fallen day
I can see for miles and miles and miles
The wind is cold it hasn't got a lot to say
Fields of little moments to take with me
I dare not say a word.

Each day I live I see the tears of the land
The trees hand as the armies pass
I can’t hear the wind for the machines are too loud
Sometimes the night makes sounds of roaring pain
I dare not say a word.

All the busy roads we make lead nowhere
And all our steps are measured to that road
The wind is old it hasn't got a lot to say
Sometimes the night makes sounds of roaring pain
I dare not say a word.

David Bridie : piano, keyboards, vocals
John Phillips : guitar
Rowan McKinnon : bass

PERFECT DESIGN
(Bridie/Phillips)

The old woman swears now and then,
fears for her death in a home for the old,
and it's the perfect design to keep her away,
she's not supposed to understand.

And she cries out aloud as the door swings closed.
I am old, I am old and the fire is cold.
Lord I'll believe in you now,
And God's the perfect design to keep her away,
she's not supposed to understand.

The old woman breaths now and then,
laughs in her sleep as she thinks how it could have been,
she sees this perfect design to keep her away,
it's too late for her to understand...
she's asleep inside.

David Bridie : keyboards, vocals
John Phillips : guitar
Rowan McKinnon : bass
Phillip Flinker : congas, cymbal
Tanya Hardy-Smith : cello

WALK TIRED

(Bridie/Phillips)

When this day ends and we see through another day
We sit here, we still remain and just walk tired the laws
don’t change. If only I'd remember what I saw.
We're laughing but deep inside when they say march we keep in step.

All year round, the seasons turn from one to next but
we let them by; too busy chasing comfort in our homes.
I wonder… place my feet into the pool and feel a little smile.
I sometimes think we don’t deserve the pleasures such as these.
If only we could leave things as they are.
I'd sometimes like to live far away from here
(certainly would).

David Bridie : piano, vocals
John Phillips : guitar

MR. POOH (DO BE A DON’T BE)

(Bridie/Phillips/McKinnon)

Mr. Pooh wakes up before he gets up,
he gets up before he wakes,
Came in drunk again last night, out with the boys
on a Wednesday nights, he was a mess.
Happy home with a garden gnome and a painting by
his Auntie Merle, it's real bizarre,
Walks into the bathroom wall, says "it should not be here at all, oh I don't know"
And it's off to work we go, hi ho
(he dreams) Do be a don't be, Don't be a do be.

He goes for the knuckle when he goes for the sauce,
but he goes for the sauce when he's bored of course,
that's everyday.
And it's a hard day, work, bang head against the
wall day but that's okay.
He seems as if he's had enough as he goes to town on
the morning bus, he's feeling sick,
he keeps on keeping on, life's not meant to have some fun,
and it's off to work we go, hi ho
(he dreams) Do be a don't be. Don't be a do be.

There's no such thing as love he says as he falls to
the ground which he keeps for a nest, it's cosy and warm.
Then he croons to Mrs. Thirty Eight who lives across
the neighbour's fence, he thinks she's so fine.
He thinks he fancies her tea towels and the gowns
she wears to bingo, she could make his day.
Brian told me the other day, all the way with the USA, that's for sure.
And it's off to sleep he goes, hi ho,
(he dreams) Do be a don't be. Don't be a do be.

David Bridie : keyboards, vocals
John Phillips : guitar
Rowan McKinnon : bass
Jacqui Rutten : vocals
Tanya Hardy-Smith : cello

ONCE LIKE THIS

(Bridie/Phillips/Richardson)

Here I stand but I'm not waving at you any more
It's cold. There are things to be done if we're
to get anywhere, how I wish
There's no one around, it must
have been as this forever
A turn for all my emptiness a silent smile
for once like this.

David Bridie : sticks, vocals
John Phillips : elec. guitar
Andrew Richardson : acoustic guitar

ANOTHER POND

(Bridie)

Another pond is empty no reasons to make new
I think I'll walk home now I’m tired
And looked for a little while to see
if I could smile
But I couldn't walk in deeper if I tried
Look out for another place a comfortable idea
Christ we don't believe that anyway, not here
And it's another day to think about
Another empty pond I wonder if I'll be
there someday.

David Bridie : keyboards, vocals, bells
Andrew Richardson : acoustic guitar
Darren Geraghty : chimes, pipe
